The Jaffe Memorial Fountain is a tall, ornate sandstone structure topped by a stone canopy, standing in a small plaza near the entrance to the Victoria Square shopping complex. It honors Otto Jaffe, a prominent industrialist and twice Lord Mayor of Belfast, who donated the fountain to the city in nineteen hundred and nine. Originally situated at Victoria Square, the fountain provided fresh drinking water for the horses, dogs, and workers who crowded the busy local markets during the early twentieth century.
