Albert Memorial Clock

The Albert Memorial Clock leans nearly four feet off the vertical, a result of being built on reclaimed land over the silt of the River Farset. Construction finished in eighteen sixty-nine to honor Queen Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert. During the project, the original architect, William Barre, faced a committee that rejected his initial Gothic design for being too expensive. He entered the competition again under a pseudonym, won with the same design, and completed the tower for the city of Belfast.
