Its entrance is marked by a modest archway that hides the quiet courtyard from the noise of the Royal Mile. The garden features intricate box hedges and gravel paths designed to mimic the layout of old Edinburgh plots. In the nineteen seventies, the architecture firm Morris and Steedman restored this space, turning a neglected alleyway into a functioning, seventeenth-century style herb garden.
