South East Cumberland Street Lane is a narrow, cobbled mews tucked behind the grand stone townhouses of Edinburgh’s New Town. Its low-slung, former carriage houses once sheltered the horses and staff of the wealthy residents living on the main street above. Today, these converted buildings serve as garages, studios, and homes. The grit of the original stone walls remains, a sharp contrast to the polished facades nearby. One stable stall here still holds an original iron ring used to secure a carriage horse.
