St. Andrew Square Garden

The center of Saint Andrew Square holds a tall stone column topped by a statue of Henry Dundas. This garden began as a private residential park for the wealthy residents of the surrounding townhouses, but it transitioned into a public space in the middle of the twentieth century. When the area was first developed, the financier Sir Lawrence Dundas built his mansion right here. He beat out the local church for the land, securing a view that eventually defined the city's Georgian layout.
