The Hub dominates the Royal Mile with a spire that stands as the tallest point in central Edinburgh. This Victorian Gothic building was constructed in the eighteen forties to house the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. Architect Augustus Pugin designed the soaring interior to impress ministers who traveled here once a year. The church leaders met in the great hall below the steeple, debating national policy while the public watched from the galleries. Today, it serves as the home of the Edinburgh International Festival.
