Glasgow Botanic Gardens

The Kibble Palace is the vast, wrought-iron glasshouse that dominates the Glasgow Botanic Gardens. It started life in eighteen seventy-three as a private conservatory at John Kibble’s mansion on Loch Long. Kibble, an eccentric engineer, dismantled the entire structure and floated it down the River Clyde on massive barges to reach its current home. Inside, the cool air carries the scent of rare ferns and white marble statues, relics of the Victorian obsession with gathering the world’s flora under one roof.
