The bright red paint on the front of Singl-end Garnethill marks it out against the gray stone of the surrounding tenement buildings. This cafe occupies a space that once served as a basement workshop and coal cellar for the apartments above. When the owners took over, they found layers of history buried in the grit, including old sewing machines from the days when Garnethill was the heart of Glasgow’s garment trade. Today, the space serves coffee and food to the neighborhood.
