Broomielaw

The Broomielaw stretches along the north bank of the River Clyde, marked by a long, flat quay wall of granite blocks. This stretch served as the city’s primary harbor for centuries, where wooden sailing ships once crowded the water so tightly you could cross the river by jumping from deck to deck. In eighteen twenty-three, a young man named David Napier launched the first iron-hulled steamer from these docks, effectively turning this quiet riverbank into the heartbeat of global shipbuilding and trade.
