Ramshorn Graveyard

The Ramshorn Graveyard is defined by its high, barred perimeter walls that separate the quiet, sunken headstones from the busy Merchant City streets. It remains as the final resting place for several of Glasgow’s wealthiest seventeenth and eighteenth-century tobacco lords. Among those buried here is John Anderson, who founded Anderson’s University, and the architect of the adjacent church, Thomas Rickman. The graveyard once served as a primary burial ground for the city elite, holding graves that were frequently raided by resurrectionists for medical schools.
