Barrowland Ballroom

The Barrowland Ballroom is identifiable by the massive, glowing neon sign perched high above the corner of the Gallowgate, flashing its name in bright red and blue script. Originally opened in nineteen thirty-four by Maggie McIver, a woman who built an empire from a single barrow, the venue served as a dance hall for the market traders. The floor is famous for its sprung maple wood, designed to cushion the dancers' feet during long nights of live music.
