Provand's Lordship

Provand's Lordship stands out as the oldest house in Glasgow, a narrow, four-story stone building with a steeply pitched roof and crow-stepped gables. It dates back to fourteen seventy-one, constructed to serve as the manse for the prebendary of Provan, a cleric attached to the nearby cathedral. While other medieval structures around it vanished, this house remained, surviving centuries of urban change. Bishop William Elphinstone once lived here, overseeing the spiritual and administrative duties that defined the city long before the industrial age.
