The Ca d'Oro building features a distinct corner tower topped with a glass-covered dome that rises above the surrounding streetscape. Built in eighteen seventy-two as a warehouse for a furniture company, it borrowed its Venetian Gothic style directly from the palaces along the Grand Canal. John Honeyman designed the structure, which proved so expensive to construct that it nearly bankrupted the initial owners before it even opened. The elaborate terracotta detailing remains, even if the furniture makers long ago moved on.
