The St. Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art occupies a building of dark, red sandstone with stepped gables that mimic the sixteenth century architecture of the adjacent Glasgow Cathedral. It houses objects from diverse faiths, including a zen garden and a stained glass depiction of Salvador Dali’s Christ of Saint John of the Cross. When workmen excavated the site in the late eighties, they discovered medieval pottery and bone fragments, leading to the preservation of the ruins directly beneath the museum floor.
