Argyll Arcade

The Argyll Arcade features a high, glass-paned barrel roof that stretches from Argyle Street to Buchanan Street. Built in eighteen twenty-seven, it remains the oldest covered shopping arcade in Scotland. When it opened, the arcade served as a refined destination for the city’s elite to stroll and purchase luxury goods away from the rain. John Oswald, the jeweler who commissioned the space, filled it with shops that specialized in gold and silver, a tradition that continues with dozens of watchmakers and diamond merchants inside.
