Hunterian Art Gallery

The Hunterian Art Gallery holds a stark, brutalist presence on the University of Glasgow campus, characterized by its dark, flat concrete panels and sharp, angular geometry. It began as the collection of William Hunter, an eighteenth-century anatomist who filled his London home with coins, shells, and paintings. When he died, he willed his entire cabinet to the university. Today, the gallery houses the largest public display of works by James McNeill Whistler, including his painted portraits and hundreds of his private lithographs.
