Garnethill Community Garden

The Garnethill Community Garden occupies a steep, terraced slope that once held a row of crumbling Victorian tenements. When those buildings were demolished in the nineteen seventies, the lot sat empty and overgrown for decades. A local resident named Martha worked with the community to clear the trash and clear the weeds, transforming the derelict gap into a public orchard. Today, apple and pear trees grow on the hillside, and neighbors maintain the vegetable beds tucked into the stone retaining walls.
