The Gaslamp Quarter sign is an archway spanning Fifth Avenue, defined by a series of glowing bulbs surrounding the words Gaslamp Quarter in a clean, sans-serif font. It arrived in nineteen ninety-one, long after the neighborhood had transitioned from a bustling Victorian district to a collection of run-down hotels and warehouses. City planners installed it to mark the boundary of a newly revitalized historical zone. The archway signaled that the area had finished its days as a derelict sailors' hangout.
