Yuma Building

The Yuma Building features a distinct yellow brick facade that separates it from the neighboring structures in the Gaslamp Quarter. Built in eighteen eighty-two, it served as a hotel for travelers arriving by train. When the city’s red-light district flourished nearby, the upper floors operated as a brothel known as the Hotel St. James. A heavy iron fire escape still clings to the exterior, a permanent reminder of the city’s strict mandates following a series of devastating fires in the downtown area.
