The front door of Filippi's Pizza Grotto sits tucked behind a grocery store shelf packed with imported pastas, olive oils, and cured meats. Vincenzo DePhilippis and his wife Giuliana opened this shop in nineteen fifty to supply the local Italian community with ingredients they could not find elsewhere. The dining room grew out of a request from a customer who asked for a meal using the products on the shelves. Today, the kitchen still operates through that original grocery store entrance.
