The tip of the peninsula at the end of Mariposa Street is capped with a jagged, concrete outcrop that defies the neat industrial grid of the Dogpatch. This is Point San Quentin, once a bustling site for nineteenth century shipyards. Workers built heavy maritime vessels right over these mudflats. Today, the water pulls back to reveal rusted pilings and broken pier foundations, the skeletal remains of a waterfront that prioritized deep-sea access over the clean, paved edges of the modern city.
