SFMYC Boathouse

The San Francisco Model Yacht Club boathouse sits quietly by the edge of Spreckels Lake, guarding a history that stretches back to the nineteenth century. While today it serves as a storage facility and meeting space, the structure itself holds a surprising secret. It was built in nineteen thirty-eight using redwood salvaged from the original de Young Museum, which had been demolished following the nineteen hundred six earthquake. This reuse of materials anchored the new club building in the physical debris of San Francisco's past, providing a sturdy, historic home for a community dedicated to the miniature.
