Before you walk through the doors of Amoeba Music on Haight Street, take a moment to look up at the tall tower on the building. That structure holds a relic from a previous life: a neon sign that once advertised Park Bowl, the massive bowling alley that occupied this space until the late nineteen nineties. The city of San Francisco insisted that the owners preserve this sign during their renovation, and even today, it remains a gritty, vintage landmark that is still occasionally tagged by local artists.
