The Letterman Digital Arts Center spans twenty-three acres of the Presidio, marked by four massive, red-brick buildings with sweeping rooflines and terra-cotta trim. George Lucas built this campus to house Industrial Light and Magic, the visual effects company he started in a warehouse for his first Star Wars film. Before Lucas arrived, the site held a military hospital where soldiers recovered from war injuries. Today, the Yoda statue in the courtyard greets visitors at the heart of the complex.
