This facility was established in the late nineteen sixties as part of an effort to decentralize art funding and ensure resources reached beyond the city's established elite galleries. Originally created by the San Francisco Arts Commission to support emerging voices during a period of intense social change, it continues to function as a vital hub where artists develop multi-disciplinary work.
