The Dolphin Fountain features three bronze dolphins leaping from a circular pool of water, captured in the middle of a jump toward the sky. It marks the transition between the city and the sand, standing where State Street meets the Pacific Ocean. Sculptor James Bottoms cast the bronze figures in nineteen ninety-one, intending them to celebrate the marine life thriving in the Santa Barbara Channel. Local families frequently gather here, watching children run through the spray on warm afternoons near the tide.
