cultural

The Lobero Theatre features a white stucco facade and a red tile roof, marking it as a piece of classic California mission-style architecture. José Lobero, an Italian immigrant and opera singer, built the original structure here in eighteen seventy-three to provide the town with a dedicated performance space. When the wooden building fell into disrepair in the nineteen twenties, local residents raised funds to rebuild it, ensuring the theater remained a hub for music, dance, and theater in Santa Barbara.
