Rafael González House

The Rafael González House sits apart from its neighbors, marked by a long, low profile and a deep, covered porch supported by heavy wooden pillars. Built in eighteen twenty-five, it is one of the few surviving examples of adobe construction from the Mexican era in Santa Barbara. Rafael González, a soldier and eventually a customs official, lived here with his large family. During the constitutional convention in Monterey, he left his home to his wife, Josefa, who managed the household and the property alone.
