Paseo de la Guerra

The Paseo de la Guerra is a narrow, white-walled courtyard featuring a hand-painted tile fountain and a series of wrought-iron balconies. Built in nineteen twenty-two, it occupies the site of the original eighteen twenties De la Guerra adobe home, once the center of local political life. Pearl Chase, a prominent preservationist, championed the construction of this shopping arcade to ensure new development echoed the city's Spanish colonial roots. The original adobe owner, Jose de la Guerra, hosted lavish parties here for decades.
