Casa de la Guerra

The Casa de la Guerra stands out with its long, narrow adobe silhouette and a wooden balcony running the entire length of its second floor. Built in the eighteen twenties, this was the home of José de la Guerra, the commandant of the Santa Barbara Presidio. When Richard Henry Dana junior visited in eighteen thirty-six, he described a wedding celebration here that lasted for three days. Guests danced in the courtyard while the family opened their home to the entire town for continuous feasting.
