El Paseo

The El Paseo complex centers on a high-walled, narrow walkway that replicates the feel of a Spanish colonial village street. Architect James Osborne Craig designed the space in nineteen twenty-two, incorporating original adobe walls from the De la Guerra family home built in eighteen twenty-seven. During the planning phase, builders discovered the original family wine cellar still intact beneath the site. Today, the complex functions as a labyrinth of shops and galleries that wrap around a central, fountain-filled courtyard.
