Colony Theatre

The Colony Theatre displays a tall, narrow marquee stretching vertically above Lincoln Road, topped by a rounded crest that dates back to nineteen thirty-five. It began as a cinema designed for the new luxury of air conditioning, a luxury that drew crowds escaping the humid Florida heat. When a projectionist started a fire in the booth during a nineteen-forty-six screening, he managed to save the building by dragging the flaming film reel out into the street himself.
