Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park

A trellis covered in wisteria stretches over the center of Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park. This iron arbor serves as the park’s main landmark, providing a shaded path along the harbor. Before the nineteen seventies, this land held decaying wharves and warehouses that separated the North End from the water. A group of residents pushed to demolish the dilapidated piers to create a public space instead. The park remains the city’s primary connection between the narrow historic streets and the Atlantic Ocean.
