The Desert Moon stands out with its jagged, neon-lit roofline that mimics a mountain range against the flat desert horizon. It began as a small roadside motel in nineteen fifty-two, serving travelers driving the long stretch of highway before Las Vegas expanded outward. When the original owner, Al Miller, realized he could not compete with the massive casinos, he painted the facade in bright, desert-inspired hues and added the iconic moon signage that still glows pink every evening.
