SS Stevens Memorial Anchor

historic

The SS Stevens Memorial Anchor is a six-ton piece of maritime history that serves as a monument to one of the most unusual experiments in American campus living. It originally belonged to a 473-foot vessel that Stevens Institute of Technology purchased in 1967 to solve an urgent housing shortage. For seven years, the ship was permanently moored at a nearby pier in the Hudson River, functioning as a floating dormitory that accommodated about 150 students.
