Hoboken Shipyard

In the late nineteenth century, the Hoboken Shipyard became the primary American gateway for the North German Lloyd Steamship Company. This waterfront transformed into a massive industrial complex where colossal ocean liners like the Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse docked to discharge thousands of European immigrants and high-value cargo directly into the New York metropolitan area. The site functioned as a private city within a city, complete with its own massive piers, warehouses, and specialized machinery capable of servicing the largest vessels afloat at the time.
