Court Square–23rd Street station

The Court Square–23rd Street station is actually a complex of three originally separate stations that were built decades apart. The oldest part of the structure, the elevated IRT Flushing Line platform, dates back to nineteen sixteen and was first known as 45th Road–Court House Square. Because the complex grew piece by piece, passengers for years had to leave the station and walk along the street to transfer between lines. It was not until twenty eleven that a massive underground construction project unified the three distinct sections, turning what was once a disjointed series of stops into the integrated transit hub you see today.
