For Freedoms Mural

This mural serves as a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic Four Freedoms paintings created by Norman Rockwell in the mid-twentieth century. While Rockwell originally illustrated President Franklin D. Roosevelt's vision of freedom of speech, worship, and freedom from want and fear through a specific lens of the nineteen forties, this iteration updates that imagery to reflect the diverse faces and identities of modern America. The project is part of a larger initiative led by the artist collective known as For Freedoms. Founded in twenty sixteen by artists Hank Willis Thomas and Eric Gottesman, the organization treats art as a bridge for civic engagement and public discourse. By placing these works in public spaces, the collective aims to shift the role of the artist from a mere observer to an active participant in shaping political and social conversations.
