Rose Garden

The McCall Burying Ground occupies this corner, distinguished by a low, weathered stone wall and a dense thicket of climbing roses that bloom along the iron fencing. It holds the remains of Archibald McCall and his descendants, a prominent merchant family who lived nearby during the eighteenth century. When the city redesigned the neighborhood in the nineteen sixties, planners opted to preserve this small, sunken patch of family earth rather than clear it for new construction. A single headstone remains standing among the thorns.
