It serves as the grand lobby for a complex modeled after the Gothic spires of the Houses of Parliament in London. Architect Philip Johnson designed this space to offer a climate-controlled sanctuary during Pittsburgh’s biting winters. In its early days, the hall hosted high-society balls, but it now functions as a quiet public atrium where commuters eat lunch beneath the glass.
