Mellon Green features a meticulously manicured lawn and a dense perimeter of trees that dampen the noise of downtown Pittsburgh. Before this quiet space existed, the site held the brick offices of the Saint Charles Hotel and several commercial buildings. In the nineteen fifties, the Mellon family cleared the block to create an open air plaza for office workers. A bronze plaque near the sidewalk identifies the park as a memorial to the founding members of the Mellon banking dynasty.
