World War II Memorial

The Tennessee World War II Memorial features a massive, curving limestone wall that holds the names of over five thousand Tennesseans who died in the conflict. Its most striking feature is a thirty-foot-tall bronze sculpture of a winged figure representing Victory, which stands watch over the plaza. Governor Gordon Browning pushed for this tribute immediately after the war ended. Sculptor Belle Kinney and her husband Leopold Scholz crafted the bronze centerpiece, creating a site dedicated to those lost during the nineteen forties.
