2nd Avenue Historic District

The two-story brick buildings lining Second Avenue North feature tall, arched windows and elaborate iron facades that distinguish them from the modern glass towers nearby. These warehouses formed the commercial heart of Nashville after the Civil War, serving as a hub where steamboats docked to offload coffee, sugar, and dry goods. When the river trade declined, these buildings sat vacant for decades, until a local effort in the nineteen seventies convinced developers to renovate the historic storefronts instead of tearing them down.
