Hatch Show Print is identified by the heavy, distinct smell of oil-based ink and the wall of weathered, hand-carved wooden type blocks near the entrance. Founded in eighteen seventy-nine, it is one of the oldest letterpress shops in the country. Charlie Hatch once bartered posters for concert tickets, pinning his work to telephone poles to drum up business for traveling carnivals and country singers. His prints became the visual shorthand for Nashville, defining the look of American music history for decades.
