Woolworth Theatre

The Woolworth Theatre features a distinct, pale limestone facade marked by large, arched window bays. This building opened in nineteen thirty-nine as a flagship Woolworth’s Five and Dime store, drawing crowds with its lunch counter and retail floor. In nineteen sixty, student activists staged sit-ins here to protest racial segregation. The local manager eventually agreed to integrate the counter, making it one of the first in Nashville to serve all customers regardless of race. Today, the space functions as a private events venue.
