The black iron fence surrounding this grassy rectangle in the Cedars neighborhood dates back to the nineteen twenties. Before the neighborhood became a collection of industrial warehouses, this space served as a playground for children living in the surrounding Victorian homes. City records from nineteen twenty-six show the city paying for the installation of this specific fencing to contain the area. The neighborhood shifted toward heavy industry mid-century, but the iron perimeter remained while the houses around it disappeared.
