Civic Garden

park garden

The Civic Garden sits as a low, concrete basin tucked between the glass towers of downtown Dallas. It holds a circular fountain that stays silent for months at a time, surrounded by rows of crepe myrtle trees planted in rigid, symmetrical lines. Before the city installed this park, the site served as the basement of a bustling post office. Workers hauled heavy canvas bags of mail through tunnels beneath this exact spot until the city cleared the block for this public space.
