A massive, shiny steel robot sits on a pile of wooden railroad ties, gripping a guitar like he is about to play a chord. This is the Traveling Man, the first of four sculptures Brad Oldham created to anchor the Deep Ellum neighborhood. His face is a giant, friendly gear, and his body is built from salvaged industrial parts that mirror the district’s history as a hub for blues musicians and rail workers. Children often climb into his oversized metal lap.
