The Kimpton Pittman Hotel occupies the old Knights of Pythias Temple, a four-story brick building that stands out with its heavy stone cornices and arched windows. Built in nineteen sixteen, the structure functioned as a social and professional hub for Dallas’s Black community during a time of strict segregation. It housed offices for doctors, dentists, and lawyers, plus a grand ballroom on the top floor. Architect William Sidney Pittman designed the space, famously becoming the first Black architect to receive a commission in Dallas.
