Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts

The main building features a heavy, dark brick facade with narrow windows that contrast against the glass-walled expansion added years later. Originally built as a segregated high school for Black students in nineteen twenty-two, it served as a hub for the community during the Jim Crow era. After desegregation, the school faced closure, but artists and educators fought to save the site by converting it into an arts magnet. Erykah Badu and Norah Jones once roamed these hallways as students honing their crafts.
